1. two queens in a king sized bed by girl in red.

Basically just a gay festive song about staying in bed together on Christmas Day with your lesbian lover. That's all.

Notable line: "There's no mistletoe above our heads, but I'll kiss you anyway on Christmas Day".

2. You Are My Christmas by Dolly Parton ft. Randy Parson

Iconic Dolly Parton released a whole Christmas album recently and this one features her husband! Wigged.

Notable line: "The sweetest gift I've ever known, Love the precious love you've shown".

3. Chosen Family by Rina Sawayama.

Not traditionally a Christmas song but is about the 'chosen family' relationship you can have with friends. Last year, I spent Christmas Day with my best friends and their family otherwise I would have been spending it on my own for the first time. I imagine this will be really relevant to people in this pandemic where this whole year has been really isolating.

Notable line: "Open a bottle it's time we celebrate, Who you were, Who you are".

4. Santa Baby by Baby Queen (cover).

Baby Queen dresses in pale pink and a tiara as she dances around and sings a cheeky modern cover of the Christmas classic.

Notable line: "Santa honey, a '54 convertible too, Light blue".

5. Winter Things by Ariana Grande.

Written about her having Christmas in California which is just as hot as summer so it doesn’t feel like Christmas, and how she doesn’t normally do Christmassy things like going out in the snow, but that doesn’t stop her from enjoying it with her loved one. This is another we can relate to this in a different sense in this pandemic. We can't go out and do what we normally do at Christmas time.

Notable line: "We can be wherever if we visualise".

6. 'tis the damn season by Taylor Swift.

Taylor Swift released her second surprise album, and sister to folklore, evermore. This song is about being home for Christmas and being reminded of someone you used to be with when you lived here and feeling nostalgic about your hometown. About wanting to be with them just for christmas while you're there as you know the relationship won't last anyway.

Notable line: "We could call it even, Even when I'm leaving, 'Tis the damn season".

7. Real Love by Tom Odell.

I first saw Tom Odell back in 2015 and have continued to see him every chance I get. For anyone who loves a good pianist and stage performer, he's my highest recommendation. This song was the John Lewis advert song and a cover of the John Lennon tune. About how we want toys when we're children, but as we grow older we just want to be with ones we love.

Notable line: "Just like the little girls and boys playing with their little toys, seems like all we really were doing was waiting for love".

8. Christmas Makes Me Cry by Kacey Musgraves.

Christmas has always been a sad time for me and something that’s been hard to get through every year ever since I was a schoolkid, for several reasons. I found this song a few weeks ago and was so relieved to hear something I related to for once. As someone who doesn’t feel the joys and happiness of Christmas, we're always surrounded by that and kind of pressured to feel happy and grateful and also like if you don't have a 'normal' happy family life or you're single then you can't enjoy it because you don’t have anyone to spend it with. I've learned as I've grown up to not get so upset about the holidays anymore because now I'm much happier with myself, but I know what it's like to go through this and how much pressure you can put on yourself to have a good time.

Notable line: "It's the ones we miss, no one to kiss under the mistletoe, Another years gone by, just one more that, I couldn't make it home".
